Best power bank 2026: which one to choose for your phone or computer?
By Setup nomad
THE SHORT ANSWER
For an iPhone or a Qi2-compatible phone, the best power bank is often a 10,000 mAh magnetic one like the Anker MagGo: it attaches to the back and charges without a cable. For a laptop, look first at the power of a single USB-C port: 100 W with the UGREEN Nexode 20,000 mAh, up to 140 W with the Anker 737. Capacity comes next, depending on the number of useful recharges and the weight you accept.
A power bank is chosen the opposite way to what the label suggests. The mAh figure catches the eye, but it says nothing about the available power, the energy actually delivered, or the weight in the bag. Start with the most demanding device you want to charge, then with how you will charge it: attached to the back of the phone, on a train table or at the bottom of a bag.
BEFORE CHOOSING
The criteria that matter.
The most demanding device
A phone is satisfied with around 20 to 30 W. A laptop often requires 45 to 100 W, sometimes more: check the power of a single USB-C port, not just the total advertised when several ports are working.
Energy, more than mAh
mAh are measured at cell voltage. What reaches the phone is lower, because of conversion and heat. Count the Wh printed on the battery and keep a 30 to 40% margin to estimate real recharges.
The charging gesture
A Qi2 magnetic battery avoids the cable but charges more slowly and heats up more than a USB-C connection. For a laptop, the cable itself must support the target power: 100 W, or 240 W for the highest profiles.
The plane
In the cabin, airlines generally limit batteries according to their energy in Wh, and ban them in checked baggage. At 3.6–3.85 V, 24,000 mAh represents around 86 to 92 Wh: read the printed value and your airline's rules before you leave.

Anker
MagGo Qi2
A 10,000 mAh battery that attaches magnetically and charges in Qi2 up to 15 W. It stays on the back of the phone while you walk or read.

For the laptop
UGREEN
Nexode Power Bank
20,000 mAh and 100 W advertised, with two USB-C and one USB-A: enough to extend a work session away from an outlet.
To checkThe 100 W assume a 100 W USB-C cable and a laptop that accepts them. Shared across several ports, the power per device drops.

For very long days
Anker
737 Power Bank
24,000 mAh and up to 140 W in USB-C Power Delivery 3.1, with a screen showing the current power.
To checkThe 140 W require a laptop and a cable compatible with PD 3.1. It weighs noticeably more than a 10,000 mAh: reserve it for the days that justify it.

THE QUESTIONS WE ASK OURSELVES
The useful questions.
Answers to choose a gift that finds its place in a real life.
All gift guidesWhat power bank capacity to recharge an iPhone?
A 10,000 mAh battery most often covers one full iPhone recharge and part of a second, depending on the model and losses. A 5,000 mAh gets you through an evening; a 20,000 mAh is mainly useful if you also charge a tablet or a laptop.
Compare 5K, 10K and 20KCan a power bank recharge a MacBook?
Yes, if it delivers over USB-C Power Delivery a power close to that of the Mac's adapter: at least 30 to 45 W for a MacBook Air, more for a MacBook Pro. Below that, the laptop charges slowly or merely slows its discharge.
Understanding watts and cablesCan you take a 20,000 mAh power bank on a plane?
Generally yes, in the cabin: around 72 to 77 Wh, below the 100 Wh threshold commonly applied. The rules depend on the airline and the country, however. Keep the battery in your carry-on and check the printed Wh value.
Magnetic battery or battery with a cable?
The magnetic one is more convenient day to day with an iPhone or a Qi2 phone. The battery with a cable charges faster, loses less energy and also powers a tablet or a laptop.
